Music - 5th grade
The music program at Stevenson PACT is run by CSMA, the Community School of Music and Art in Mountain View. The program is funded by MVEF (Mountain View Educational Foundation).
June (of 4th grade)
- CSMA distributed surveys to students, about a week before the end of school. The surveys are due before school ends.
- The students are given a choice between Band, Choir, Strings, or Art. They are asked to rank their choices from 1 to 3 for each trimester of fifth grade.
- Within band and strings, they ranked their choice of instrument

August (5th Grade)
- The CSMA teacher handed back the surveys to each child. This year all Stevenson PACT students got their 1st choice, whatever that was, with one exception: there were not enough students for Percussion instruments, so those students had a chance to choose another option.
- The District sent emails and automated phone calls to families stating that they could get an instrument from the District
- There were 3 dates to pick up an instrument.
- District requests $50 for loan. Families who did not want to borrow could rent or buy an instrument elsewhere.
- If the child’s first choice instrument was taken, the parent could get a different instrument
- The child will be able to learn whichever instrument they show up with on the first day of class.
During the school year
- Classes begin 2nd week of school (Tuesday, 30 August)
- It is the student’s responsibility to remember their instrument.
